JAPANESE GARDENS and BONSAI
The most famous gardens are viewed in the grounds of temples and shrines.
Japanese landscape gardens
The three most celebrated Japanese landscape gardens are Kairakuen in Mito, Kenrokuen in Kanazawa, and Korakuen in Okayama. All three are unique and equally breathtaking, and you can literally spend hours exploring and admiring them. There are many other gardens of note as well, including several in Kyoto and Tokyo.
Imperial Moss Gardens
The moss gardens associated with the Imperial Villa (Koryuji) are also worth visiting. Viewing is by appointment only, which we can arrange.
Japanese Art of Bonsai
Japan is of course perhaps most famous for its cultivation of Bonsai. We can help organize visits to some of the finest nurseries in the country and also meetings with master growers, who have honed their skills over the course of a life time.
